The Module & Brief
This week has focused on finalising an initial brief for the first project of the year. As the module has no clear direction we have the ability to explore any field of design that interests us or to use one of the prompt briefs to help us choose a direction. Over the summer I started to take my health, wellbeing & fitness more serious and having never set out to design a phone app as an individual I wanted to incorporate the two concepts together and develop a design that uses both.
My current idea is to develop a fitness app. The fitness app will focus on interval training for High Intensity Interval Training & for running. These two methods of training are something that I currently use and would like to focus on as I would like to streamline the process that I use when putting together a session in the gym or when I go for a run.
Topics I want to integrate into the project
GPS Tracking - I have an initial idea to have two types of intervals using GPS one being Distance and the other being location depending on what specifically someone wants in their session.
Audio Cues - This is important because when running it isn’t always possible to look at the next part of your session without breaking rhythm or engagement with the current part of the session. I find rhythm a key part to keeping on track with a session.
Screen Interactions - I also want to look at the way apps currently use the screen and how they get the users to interact with specific parts of the screen in different ways, such as instagrams use of off screen elements being swipeable onto the screen.
Machine Learning - Can it be used to develop a program or session for a user based upon previous sessions or can it create a route for you to run which incorporates the session but you start & finish in the same place.
These topics will give me a few areas to look into for research and to see what has already been achieved.
